ADA's story
Please contact Jenny Cope (giveadogahome@live.com) for more information about this pet.
ADA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick disease tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2017.  ADA has been listed as a GSD mix. Ada was only a month old when she was saved with her mother and sibling, both were pure white, with blue eyes. Both her mother and sibling have been adopted.
Ada, having grown up around lots of dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes is extremely well dog socialized. She is an active girl and she loves to play, chase, wrestle and have fun. As a pup she was very shy and didn't like to be touched, but she has developed into a very loving, affectionate girl, who will find the smallest spot on the bed and make sure she can fit in it, just to be close. She will cuddle on the couch, but also is content lying on a dog bed.
Since we don't time to train dogs at the rescue Ada is going to need a family that will spend the time and work with her, she is well behaved and does have good manners, but she needs to learn boundaries and her new families expectations and rules. She is very responsive and I believe once trust has been established, training will be fun and rewarding for both her and her family.  She can be shy of people initially, but given time she warms up quickly and just loves to love. Ada has not been on a leash, although we are going to try and work on that if time permits, but the family must expect to have to work with her on that.
She is going to need a family that is sensitive to the fact that all she has known is a high kill shelter and then the safety of the rescue, so it is going to be a big transition for her. Having another dog in the family would be a huge benefit for her, but an active, loving family is the priority in this wonderful girls perfect match. Ada has never shown any kind of aggression with dogs or humans, she is good with kids, and just like with adults she will most likely be a little wary to start with.
Ada does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside.
Ada is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Ada and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands her initial caution of people and new places, that will help her develop her confidence and trust.
Ada is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
