HONEY's story
Please contact Jenny Cope (giveadogahome@live.com) for more information about this pet.
HONEY  was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved.  HONEY is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 14 August 2013 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 68.80 pounds. She is listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
HONEY does use the dog door to go out to do her business or enjoy the fresh air in her run. I do not know if she would let you know she needs to go out since she has 24/7 access to the outside, but she is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn. She is great with other dogs and has not shown any sign of aggression at all.
HONEY is a laid back girl, who is skinny and clearly had a horrible life before she was picked up by the animal control and then saved by GaDaH. She is quiet and gentle and is adjusting well to life here at the rescue. She is decompressing and enjoys company and getting some love and attention that she has been starved of. When she starts to gain weight and feel better mentally she will no doubt become more active and enjoy going on nice walks and adventures. She is around 5 years old and the potential to be active and playful, which I am sure she will get in time when she has adjusted.
She will need a family that is still relatively active, someone who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. She rides good in the car. She is the kind of girl that will be happy doing everything with you, be that a nice long walk/hike or relaxing at home, or by the lake. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be near or around them.   She is great with humans and although I have not seen her with children, her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
